Fabulous Florals

Lucy Cherry

Spring is finally here!  Soon we will have warm and sunny days, fun spring and summer trends, and lots of seasonal events.  A few of our favorite events coming up include graduations, spring and summer weddings, and of course the Azalea Festival Garden Party!  What makes any event more complete than beautiful floral arrangements?  Whether you give them to a recent graduate to congratulate them, carry a bouquet in your wedding, or use them to spice up your decorations, flowers can make any look complete.  In case you are looking to get some flowers for upcoming events, here are a few of our favorite local florists.

French Blue Floral

Located in New Bern, French Blue Floral is owned and ran by Wendy.  She chose the name French Blue Floral because french blue was her favorite color growing up, as it sounded very romantic.  It was also the color of her bridesmaids dresses in her wedding.  Specializing in wedding and special event floral arrangements, Wendy's passion for floral designing is evident in her work. Check out her website to view her gallery and to get in touch with her!

Beautiful Flowers by June

The name says it all! This little Wilmington flower shop may not look like much on the outside, but once you walk inside you will be impressed by the array of floral arrangements around the store.  Ran by June Sweeny, Beautiful Flowers by June is perfect to suit your floral needs for any occasion.  From a last minute bouquet, to flowers for your wedding or special event, they have it all.  Take a look at their website to see the floral portfolio, wedding gallery, and testimonials from satisfied customers!

Garden Party Floral Designs

From Garden Party Floral Designs, we got to hear from Sara Wade herself on why she is passionate about floral design.

"Flowers help us feel special. Say you are getting your hair done, or at a spa where they feature fresh flowers on the desk. You think to yourself, "Wow! I'm gonna get pampered today!" Or you stay at a really nice hotel or B&B where there are flowers in the lobby. They say to you...."this is a nice place!" Just that one touch of nature, that beauty helps you feel relaxed and happy all at the same time. Or maybe when you stay at a friend's house, she puts a little vase of a couple of stems by your bed. The message here is, "Welcome! I've been expecting you and I'm glad you're here!"

Flowers encourage us, bring us joy. They are a really special part of God's creation. One that I believe should be shared and become more of a part of our daily lives."

And after you are done checking out all of these wonderful florists, make sure you stop by Lula Balou to check out all of our cute spring fashions and maybe even score a floral print piece to match your beautiful flower arrangements!

One of the best things about Wilmington is all of the locally owned coffee shops.  While I love Starbucks as much as the next girl, there is nothing like sipping on a cup of delicious coffee while knowing my money is going back to support someone in the community.  From Wrightsville Beach to downtown Wilmington, here are a few of the places that I frequent when I am in need of a caffeine jolt.

Bitty and Beau's

Opened in 2016, Bitty and Beau's coffee shop stands out because of their mission: to provide people with intellectual and developmental disabilities a job. Opened by the Wright family, the shop was originally called Beau's Coffee, named for their youngest son who has Downs Syndrome.  The name was changed when they moved to a larger building to include their youngest daughter's name, who also has Downs Syndrome.  Currently, 40 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities are employed by Bitty and Beau's.  Stop by for a warm cup of coffee and a chance to help a great cause!

What to try: Java Chip Frappe

Bespoke Coffee and Dry Goods:

In addition to craft coffee, local food, and a craft beer selection, Bespoke offers customers a small shopping selection.  They are teamed up with Soul Shoetique to provide shoes, hats, socks, and candles to for customers to browse.  Located in downtown Wilmington, it is the perfect spot to spend an afternoon or to grab a drink on your way to shop.

What to try: Hot chocolate

The Workshop

Located at Wrightsville Beach, The Workshop is a cute little coffee shop worth stopping by.  After you get your coffee, smoothie, or bagel, check out their handmade shark tooth jewelry.  Although this coffee shop does not have much room to sit and relax, it is a fun place to stop by on your way to the beach or after walking the loop.

What to try: Iced Coffee (complete with coffee ice cubes!)

Before you go get your caffeine fix, stop by Lula Balou for a cute and trendy outfit to wear or a Corkcicle Tumbler for your next coffee date!

My Favorite Trend

Sporty & Chic

My favorite trend currently is being able to rock my sneakers with a cute and comfortable t-shirt dress or my boyfriend jeans. Whether it's a plain Piko Swing Dress, the dress pictured above with a detailed collar and sleeve, or a distressed pair of jeans you will look trendy while being comfortable at the same time. I mean who doesn't love best of both worlds?! My favorite pair of fashion sneakers are the Adidas Superstars or the Puma Rhianna Fenty Velvet Creepers.

Ombre reminds me of the beach for some reason, and because of my love for the sea I feel as if I need everything ombre. This ombre maxi is a favorite in my closet. It’s so light and airy with the off the shoulder design, not to mention it’s gorgeous!!! Such an easy dress to slip on to meet the girls for dinner on the water!    Party Cups

Party Cups

I recently got this Disco Ball cup and I take it every where with me because of how fun it is! Whether it’s going to the beach, on the boat, or to a cookout the Disco ball is tagging along.   The “Disco Ball Party Cup” pictured is sure to turn heads. Get to Giving | July - S.H.A.R.E

Lucy Cherry

Get To Giving is our monthly initiative reminding our community to reach out, volunteer or donate to local organizations.
We are always working with foundations that are close to our heart.  We enjoy being present in our community and look forward to every opportunity to help others. Here are some cool foundations that we have enjoyed working with recently.
Stay tuned on how you can help give back, donate your time and/or services to help make our community a better place!

"Devote yourself to your community around you & you devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning."  Mitch Alborn

This month we are supporting the  S.HA.R.E. (SUPPORT HOPE ASSIST REFLECT & EMPOWER)  organization through the King Mackerel Tournament on July 15th - 17th at Wrightsville Beach.

S.H.A.R.E. is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization dedicated to serving children and their families who are facing difficult circumstances. Based in eastern North Carolina, S.H.A.R.E. assists families in Pender, Duplin, New Hanover, Brunswick, Onslow and Columbus. By focusing on the philosophy of "PAY IT FORWARD", we hope to make a difference in not just one family or individual but the community as a whole.

The kickoff party at Dockside on Wrightsville Beach, from 3 - 9 PM Friday July 15th is family friendly and will feature live entertainment, silent auction, Bud specials, dinner specials, raffles and prizes.
